Glow, a Belgian Malinois, is trained in several FEMA rescue operations and most recently pioneered a campaign in an innovative program focusing on active shooters called “Project Tip of the Spear,” according to a GoFundMe launched for her recovery.

“Alongside a canine partner, they are trained to charge into volatile active shooter situations — equipped with real-time body cams — ensuring the safety of our officers by neutralizing threats before any law enforcement officer steps into the building,” reads the fundraiser.

“Not only will Glow’s mission help save lives, but her training protocol is likely to revolutionize police Active Shooter canine training nationwide.”

Glow was tragically struck by a hit-and-run driver in Florham Park on Wednesday, August 9, and continued to demonstrate “unparalleled resilience” as she “traversed nearly half a mile, reeling in pain” before being located by local police, FIOS linemen, and four friends who searched for more than an hour, the campaign explains.

The crash left Glow with serious internal injuries, as well as a fractured skull, prompting the need for critical surgery at Eclipse Veterinary Hospital.

While the team’s compassionate veterinarians are urgently working to save her life, the need for additional financial support is “daunting,” the campaign says.

“Your generosity could make all the difference,” reads the campaign. “Each donation goes directly towards Glow's medical care and recovery at Eclipse Veterinary Hospital. We've seen heartening progress with her internal injuries stabilizing, but we're on tenterhooks for an update on her skull.”

More than $4,000 had been raised for Glow’s recovery as of Wednesday, August 23.

“Our hope is unwavering, but we can't traverse this path without you,” the fundraiser says.

Meanwhile, in a series of updates posted since the campaign’s creation, organizer Patrick Allocco says Glow has begun walking and “showing undeniable signs of a full recovery.”

“Her gait is now steady and strong, and her willpower is nothing short of amazing,” writes Allocco. “To witness her fight, her resilience, and her rapid progression is a testament to her enduring spirit, and to the power of community support.”
