Kevin Gilbert, a 26-year veteran of the Newark Police Department, died in the mysterious explosion around 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, South River Mayor Peter Guindi tells Daily Voice.  Gilbert was pronounced dead at the scene. Fire Victim Burned, Airlifted In Central Jersey Blaze: FD A fire with a victim was being battled in Central Jersey, authorities said. The fire was reported at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16 on McKinley Avenue South in Woodbridge Township, initial reports said. A medical helicopter was requested for a 30-year-old woman who had suffered burns, an unconfirmed report said. A spokesman for the Iselin Fire Department confirmed that one victim was airlifted to St. Barnabas Hospital. No other details were released.
