A teenage football player was killed and four of his teammates injured when two gunmen ambushed them outside a Philadelphia high school on Tuesday, Sept. 27, authorities said. It happened as the five players were walking off the field after a football scrimmage between Roxborough High School and two other schools around 4:30 p.m. on the 300 block of Fairway Terrace, Philadelphia police told the media. Officials cancelled the Wall High School football team playoff game Friday due to an alleged hazing incident involving players, NJ Advance Media reports. Video footage shows six older players -- including one holding a mop or broomstick -- swarmed and tried pinning down a younger player in the locker room as others pleaded for them to stop, the outlet said in an exclusive report. Millburn High School Athlete Robbie Almgren III Dies, 17
Millburn High School senior athlete and lifelong Short Hills resident Robert "Robbie" Almgren III died on Dec. 27. The 17-year-old succumbed to the sudden effect of AML Leukemia, which began Christmas night, his obituary says. Robbie grew up playing lacrosse, football and basketball. A senior at Millburn High School, Robbie played for the Millers and the NJ Riot Club team, and was also a trumpet player. Robbie planned on playing lacrosse for the Union College Dutchmen next year. NJ High School Junior, Varsity Lacrosse Goalie Alexea Karpinski Dies, 17
Hunterdon Central High School junior and varsity lacrosse goalie Alexea Karpinski died Nov. 21. She was 17. Born and raised in Raritan Township, Karpinski was known for her love of sports, particularly lacrosse. She played as goalie for the Hunterdon Central Red Devils as well as for the Triple Threat Elite Club Team, her obituary says. Karpinski had a goal of playing D1 lacrosse while pursuing an exercise science degree. She wanted to become a professional athletic trainer, her memorial says.
