Two people standing outside their SUV on Interstate 195 in Mercer County were seriously hurt when a pickup truck collided with another truck which then struck the pedestrians, authorities said.
The pickup truck driver also was hurt.
All three were taken to the hospital, New Jersey State Police said.
The crash occurred at 9:06 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 195 eastbound in Hamilton Township, according to Sgt. Lawrence Peele, a state police spokesman
Preliminary information was that the crash occurred near Exit 3 at milepost 3.2, Peele said.
The area was a construction zone.
All I-195 lanes were closed eastbound Thursday night including the Exit 3 ramp, Peele said.
The right lane and exit ramp remained closed early Friday.
There were no details on why the people got out of their SUV or if a construction vehicle was involved.
