Wawayanda State Park Expanded With ‘Small But Critical’ Land Purchase
Wawayanda State Park in West Milford will soon receive a trail addition through a private purchase by the Land Conservancy of New Jersey. The land acquisition, located between Wawayanda State Park and Abram S. Hewitt State Forest, completes the Terrace Pond North Trail and is full of mountain laurel, eastern hemlock, oaks, birches, and striped maple. More than a dozen New Jersey state parks and forests were closed to visitors for cleanup from Tropical Storm Isaias as of Friday evening. Many of them will remain closed for several days, according to a Facebook post being updated daily by the NJ Parks Department. These NJ Parks Reached Capacity This Weekend
Nearly half-a-dozen New Jersey state parks were closed after reaching capacity this weekend. Residents eager for fresh air flocked to the state's parks and golf courses bright and early Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and 17 -- the third weekend since Gov. Phil Murphy allowed the state's parks to reopen since the shutdown.
