More than 20 pounds of fentanyl and an additional 9,000 doses of the deadly drug were seized with the arrests of eight members of a major trafficking ring that operated on both sides of the Hudson River, authorities said. Those charged in the federally-led offensive range in age from 37 to 60. US Marshals Nab NJ Murder Suspect In Philadelphia
Members of the US Marshals Service captured a New Jersey man wanted for murder in Philadelphia, authorities said. Michael Cruz, 20, had been wanted in the Plainfield killing of Somerset's David Michael Buck on Sept. 17, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Plainfield Police Director James T. Abney said. Cruz was captured on Monday, Oct. 3 and is pending extradition proceedings to return to New Jersey, authorities said. A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 50-year-old man on Friday, March 11 in Union County, authorities said. Haneef Welch was charged with first-degree murder and related weapons offenses for gunning down Eric C. Williams in Plainfield, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said. North Jersey High School Placed On Lockdown After Student Shows Up With Gun: Police
A Union County high school was placed on lockdown when a student brought handgun to school Friday, March 4, authorities said. The Arthur L. Johnson High School student was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered, Clark police said. Members of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Union County Police Department and Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to help secure the building. The juvenile student was arrested on weapons related offenses.

Authorities are investigating after a 42-year-old man died on a Linden street Monday morning. Police responding to the 2000 block of East Saint Georges Avenue found Bruce Edward Ham, Jr., with injuries around 2 a.m., Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Linden Police Chief David Hart jointly announced Tuesday. Ham was pronounced dead at the scene. The body of a Linden public schools employee who has been missing for weeks was recovered from the Rahway River Saturday morning, authorities said. Rahway police officers responded to the river near Essex Street Saturday morning on reports of a body in the river, where Det. A Rahway man who belonged to the Union County Police Department has been found guilty of using his position to commit a string of small thefts at department stores, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said Friday. Blake Clay, 36, was convicted on charges of theft, theft-by-deception and official misconduct.
