UPDATE: A Saddle Brook police officer rescued a cat from a smoky fire that destroyed a local resident’s home Tuesday. Officer Matt Benus was the first responder at the two-alarm Hutter Street blaze. The 60-something woman got out safely, while her cat remained inside. Benus rushed in, found the feline in the living room and completed the rescue. Overnight Fire Blows Out Front Window Of Saddle Brook Deli
Firefighters quickly put down an overnight blaze that severely damaged a Saddle Brook bagel shop. No injuries were reported in the 1 a.m. fire Thursday at Metro Bagels and Deli at 5th Street and westbound Route 46, which blew out the front window. An electrical malfunction apparently was to blame, Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Kugler said. UPDATE: An out-of-control sedan driven by a 91-year-old woman struck and killed an 80-year-old man outside at a Saddle Brook shopping center just after noon Thursday. The driver was pulling into a parking spot when the Chevy jumped the curb and hit a pillar outside the Spencer Savings Bank at the Terra Mini Mall, spinning the sedan around, a witness told Daily Voice. A drug user who'd just gotten off a bus in Saddle Brook was revived by responding police officers after she suffered a drug overdose while ringing doorbells looking for help Saturday afternoon, authorities said. A Saddle Brook Walmart customer was caught with $3,660 in counterfeit bills after trying to check out with bogus fifties, authorities said. Sade Scruggs, 25, of East Orange gave the cashier $450 in bills Friday night that a cashier immediately detected were phony, Police Chief Robert Kugler said. Hackensack Man Charged With Threatening To 'Murder' Police In 19+ Towns
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A private building custodian from Hackensack called no fewer than 19 municipal police departments threatening to "murder" officers, said authorities who arrested him.
