Wires Left Draping Over Tractor Trailer, Cars In East Rutherford Crash
A tractor-trailer caused major damage and danger Monday morning, Nov. 4 in East Rutherford. According to the fire department, the vehicle struck a pole at Paterson Avenue and Herman Street around 11:50 a.m. "The impact caused significant damage, resulting in additional telephone poles being affected and damage to other vehicles," the department said. The borough police and fire departments responded, as did the county's HazMat team and PSE&G. The roadway will be closed until PSEG crews can safely complete repairs.

Little Ferry Pedestrian, 58, Struck, Killed In East Rutherford
A 58-year-old Little Ferry woman was struck and killed in East Rutherford over the weekend. The victim was struck by a Jeep Cherokee off the intersection of Paterson Avenue and Franklin Place near the Wallington border around 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, East Rutherford Police Chief Dennis Rivelli said. Witnesses said she was thrown several yards. CPR was conducted on the victim, who Riverlli said was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center. Everyone OK In Overnight East Rutherford House Fire
Fears of a possibly trapped resident proved unfounded during an overnight house fire in East Rutherford. First-floor residents were vacating the two-family home on Rose Street near Paterson Avenue as first responders arrived at 2:35 a.m., Police Capt. Jeff Yannacone said. A search determined there was no one home upstairs, where the two-alarm kitchen fire originated, he said. Firefighters had the fire doused in under a half hour. No injuries were reported. Speakeasy, Restaurant Heading To Bergen County
Bergen County is getting a new restaurant and speakeasy. The Roosevelt will be moving into the space formerly home to Taos Restaurant, on Paterson Avenue in East Rutherford, according to its Facebook page. The restaurant is designed to look just like a speakeasy, with brushed, gold chandeliers in the saloon, pendant lights, and deco wallpaper to reflect the style of the Prohibition Era. A working smoke alarm and the instant response of East Rutherford police prevented any serious injuries during a predawn multi-family home fire, authorities said. A candle in a second-floor bedroom may have ignited the blaze in the mid-century home on Grove Street off Mozart Street between Railroad and Paterson avenues shortly before 5 a.m., responders said. A 64-year-old pedestrian died after he was struck by a minivan in East Rutherford, authorities confirmed. A 46-year-old Wood-Ridge man was driving the 2019 Honda Odyssey that struck the victim from Irvington on Hackensack Street near Paterson Avenue shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, Deputy Police Chief Phillip Taormina said. A car heading the wrong way in East Rutherford while being chased by police rolled over and struck a medical building before dawn Saturday, sending six people to the hospital, responders said.
