The search for a missing 65-year-old man came for a tragic end early this week. The body of Orlando Chamorro, who had been reported missing out of North Arlington on Friday, Aug. 2, was recovered from the Passaic River on Monday, Aug. 5, Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelley said. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force responded to Main Street and the Belleville Turnpike on reports of a body in the water that morning, where firefighters made the recovery, Fennelley said. One man was killed and another wounded in a shooting at a bridge over the Passaic River, authorities confirmed. Responding officers found both city residents show in the neck and legs near the North Bridge Street bridge shortly before midnight Wednesday, March 13, they said. Fair Lawn Officer Injured In Crash Pursuing Suspect Into Paterson
A Fair Lawn police officer was injured in a crash while responding on Monday to a shoplifting at a local CVS. The officer was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with back pain after his unmarked car collided with an Acura RDX as he pursued one of two suspects across the Maple Avenue bridge over the Passaic River around 11:45 a.m., witnesses said. He was released a few hours later. The female SUV driver wasn't injured, witnesses said. Both suspects were taken into custody.

A driver escaped a far worse fate when his pickup truck overturned on a bank above the Passaic River in Garfield on Saturday. A 49-year-old man's body was pulled from the Passaic River over the weekend, officials say. The recovery was made around 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 when Kearny police got reports of a man drowning, Belleville police tell various news outlets. Two civilians pulled a man from the Passaic River, responders said. How he wound up in the water off Route 23 in Wayne around 8:15 p.m. Thursday wasn't immediately clear.
