Remembering Dariel Vasquez: 18-Year-Old HS Baseball Team Captain Killed In NY/NJ Wildfire Shock and sadness spread following the death of 18-year-old firefighter Dariel Vasquez, who was killed on Saturday, Nov. 9, while bravely battling the Jennings Creek Wildfire that spread from New Jersey into Greenwood Lake, New York.  Vasquez, a young Parks and Recreation Aide with the New York State Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Department, lost his life in the line of duty, a heartbreaking end to a life full of promise and service. NJ Under Mandatory Fire Restrictions, Drought Watch Amid High Risk For Wildfires: What To Know New Jersey officials have implemented high-level fire restrictions due to extremely dry conditions, making forests extremely vulnerable to wildfires. The Stage 3 restrictions prohibit all fires unless they are contained in an elevated stove using only propane, natural gas or electricity, according to the Department of Environmental Protections, which mandated Stage 3 fire restrictions earlier this week. Crews Douse Lawnmower Fire That Spread Through Quarter-Acre Of Hunterdon County Woods (Photos) Emergency crews were quick to douse a lawnmower fire that spread through a quarter-acre of woods in Hunterdon County, authorities said. The Fairmount Fire Company No. 1 in Long Valley responded to the blaze in the woods near Old Turnpike and Wildwood Roads in Tewksbury Township on Friday, April 15, the department said. Crews found the lawnmower fully engulfed in flames that had spread to a compost pile and a quarter-acre of woods nearby.
