Unanimous Choice For New Mahwah Police Chief Respected For His Professionalism, Expertise
A highly decorated and widely respected law enforcement veteran was unanimously approved as Mahwah's new police chief Monday night. Timothy O'Hara was chosen by Mayor Jim Wysocki as the 9th police chief in Mahwah's nearly 80-year-history. The Township Council approved the appointment of O'Hara at the June 19 public meeting to succeed four-year Police Chief Stephen Jaffe, whose retirement becomes effective July 1. The vote was 7-0. His law enforcement credentials and reputation extend beyond Mahwah's borders, and on Friday new Police Chief Stephen Jaffe will take office, pending approval by the township council, after being appointed by Mayor John Roth to replace retiring Chief James N. Feds Grant Mahwah $300,000 To Help Fight Opioid Abuse
The federal government has granted Mahwah $299,360 for anti-opioid programs, training and initiatives, as authorities increase their attention to synthetic drugs – particularly fentanyl. The Justice Department Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery grant will help township police and the Mahwah Municipal Alliance “not only build on existing [community-based] programs but also introduce new and innovative programs to deter substance abuse,” Mayor Bill Laforet said Thursday. The Mahwah Municipal Alliance announced Traci Myhal of Suffern, N.Y. was lucky number ticket #461, drawn Saturday during Mahwah Day. Myhal had a choice between the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited or the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL 4-door, each worth more $40,000.
