A dealer from the Bronx who rammed a DEA vehicle in a failed attempt to flee a fentanyl bust n New Jersey followed his accomplice's lead and took a deal from the government rather than face trial.
Miguel Nuñez, 50, pleaded guilty to fentanyl possession and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon during a hearing in U.S. District Court in Newark on Tuesday, Sept. 11, federal authorities said.
Nuñez and Jesus Higuera-Parra, 28, of Ontario, California, drove from New York City to Elizabeth to sell the deadly drug on March 24, 2021, U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Philip R. Sellinger said.

Mailman Admits Stealing, Cashing Checks From Hackensack, Maywood, Leonia Residents
A postal carrier admitted Thursday that he stole and cashed checks sent to customers on his routes in Hackensack, Maywood and Leonia.
Juan Torres, 28, of Hackensack told a federal judge in Newark via teleconference that he deposited more than $27,000 in stolen checks – including one for $1,505 -- into a bank account that he controlled, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig said.
U.S. Postal Inspection Service agents and investigators got wise to him, however, she said.
Rather than face a trial, Torres took a deal from the government, pleading guilty to bank theft in exchange for leniency. …

Ex-Teaneck Tax Preparer Convicted Of Trying To Con IRS, Helping 14 Others
Federal jurors in Newark on Tuesday convicted a former Teaneck tax preparer of helping himself and 14 clients cheat on their taxes.
Sixto Rodriguez, 55, was found guilty of all 17 counts of an indictment charging him with three counts of filing false tax returns for himself and 14 counts of helping clients do the same following a one-week trial, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.
