Massive Italian Festival Returns To Jersey City A massive Italian festival more than a century old has returned to Jersey City. La Festa Italiana is running Wednesday, Aug. 10 through Sunday, Aug. 14 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., outside of the Holy Rosary Church on 344 Sixth St. The church itself was apparently the first Italian church in New Jersey, founded in 1885. "With dozens of church societies in Holy Rosary the most prominent became the Maria SS. Playful Pit Bull Rescued From River By Garfield Firefighters A peppy pit bull named Rocky Balboa jumped into the swiftly-moving Saddle River in Garfield on Friday, requiring rescuers to fetch him. His Passaic owner was walking the year-and-a-half-year-old hound along the riverbank in the area of River Drive and Marsellus Place when he broke free to chase some Canada geese, Garfield Police Lt. Richard Uram said. The current took Rocky downstream after he jumped in, and the owner quickly lost sight of him, Uram said. Community Rallies For Clifton Woman Who Took Fatal Fall Feeding Stray Church Cats Ewelina P. Krzywinska of Clifton died on Sept. 28. She was 31 years old. More than $7,800 had been raised on a GoFundMe toward her funeral.  Ewelina, an avid animal lover, was on her way to feed cats behind her church when she fell and sustained brain damage, according to the GoFundMe launched by her sister, Klaudia Kolodynska. She ultimately died from her injuries, the campaign says. For most of her life, Ewelina, who came to the U.S. from Poland in 2001, had been battling a rare nerve disorder, the campaign says.
