Correctional Officer Charged With Taking Bribes To Smuggle Drugs, Tobacco, More Into NJ Jail
A New Jersey correctional police officer pocketed thousands of dollars in bribes from inmates in exchange for smuggling drugs, tobacco and other contraband into the Mercer County jail, authorities charged.
Tyree L. Hobbs, 39, of Hamilton, was on the take for nearly five years, beginning in 2017 -- less than a year after he joined the Mercer County Department of Corrections, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said.
And although he paid some inmates in cash, others paid the $300 to $2,500 fee per delivery through mobile apps, the attorney general said.

Prosecutor: Essex County Corrections Officer Tried Smuggling Cell Phone, Drugs To Inmate
An Essex County corrections officer was arrested on accusations he tried smuggling drugs, tobacco, a cell phone and charger to an inmate, authorities said Friday.
Members of the Criminal Intelligence Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau at the Essex County Correctional Facility on Thursday learned that Alray Blackmon, Jr., 31, of Newark, had been smuggling contraband to an inmate at the Doremus Avenue facility, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, said.

Two Hudson County men used drones to smuggle steroids, syringes, cellphones and pot into the federal correctional facility at Fort Dix, authorities charged.
Federal agents arrested Nicolo Denichilo, 38, of Jersey City, on Thursday after learning of a scheduled drop at the Lakehurst facility, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said Friday.
Also charged is Adrian Goolcharran, 35, of Union City, who initially was a fugitive and soon after was in custody.
