Mahwah High School Ranks Among New Jersey's Best

MAHWAH, N.J. -- Mahwah High School was named the 594th best high school in the country by U.S. News & World Report in its annual ranking of best high schools Tuesday. It was also named the 32nd best in New Jersey.

U.S. News & World Report enlisted the help of social science research firm RTI International to compile its rankings. They measured schools using four key metrics:

  • Math and reading proficiency for all students
  • Testing proficiency for disadvantaged students
  • Graduation rates
  • College readiness via Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test data.

Mahwah boasts a 11:1 student-to-teacher ratio and has 57 percent of its students participate in AP Exams.

Eleven other Bergen County schools were ranked among the best in the state:

  • Bergen County Technical High School (No. 4)
  • Bergen County Academies (No. 5)
  • Tenafly (No. 13)
  • Glen Rock (No. 14)
  • Ridgewood (No. 25)
  • Cresskill (No. 31)
  • Northern Highlands (No. 34)
  • Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest (No. 35)
  • Bergenfield (No. 38)
  • Park Ridge (No. 40)
  • Fort Lee (No. 55)
