Mahwah Meet-The-Candidates Nights Cancelled As Community Mourns

MAHWAH, N.J. – The meet-the-candidates nights scheduled for this week in Mahwah have been canceled as the community mourns the loss of a high school student.

A vigil was held Monday night to honor Nicholas Laurewald, 17, who died in a car crash on Saturday morning.

The Mahwah Library Board of Trustees which planned to host the events on Tuesday and Wednesday cancelled them in reaction to the horrific accident that occurred over the weekend.

The crash is under investigation, and the Mahwah community is in mourning.

“We feel it is inappropriate to proceed with these forums while the Township is grieving alongside the families of those involved in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with them,” the board wrote in a Facebook post.
