Police responding to the Prestige Management building on Williams Drive around 11:30 a.m. “found the victim trapped beneath cinder blocks on the west side of the building,” Ramsey Police Chief Bryan Gurney said this afternoon.

He’d been “working outside the building on a cinder block wall that was being removed for a garage door into the building,” Gurney said. “While this work was being performed, a 9-foot-by-12-foot section of the wall fell on [him].”

Ramsey Ambulance Corps and paramedics from the Valley Hospital Paramedics rendered first aid and CPR to the victim, who worked for Jon’s Construction of Saddle Brook (a sub-contractor for Infante Construction in Ridgewood). They then cancelled an original call for a medical chopper and went to ground transport.

He was pronounced dead Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern at 12:10 p.m., the chief said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification joined emergency responders and a PSE&G crew, among others, at the scene.

“The Ramsey Construction Official also responded as a representative of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration,” Gurney said. “The Borough of Ramsey Construction Official, Ralph Venturini stated that all proper permits were obtained prior the start of the work.
