Woman gets infant out of SUV before train rams it

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A driver got her infant out of her SUV after it became stuck at a Ramsey railroad crossing and was struck by an NJ Transit train this afternoon, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

The woman quickly got the child out of the black Land Rover and away from the car before it was struck at the West Main Street & Erie Place crossing around 1 this afternoon, witnesses told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Westbound Main Street near Spruce and eastbound North Central Avenues were closed to traffic for nearly a half-hour while authorities cleared the wreckage and investigated.

Roughly 120 passengers were aboard the Port Jervis-bound train from Secaucus, NJ Transit said.

The SUV sustained severe front-end damage. The crossing gates were damaged, as well.
