Video: Bergen County Police Officers Honor Fallen Colleagues In Mahwah

MAHWAH, N.J.– Police officers from across Bergen County paid their respects to the men and women who died in the line of duty at Wednesday's Police Memorial Day in Mahwah.

"They are true heroes and I'm sure they would all say, 'I was just doing my job,'" said Sheriff Michael Saudino, who served as emcee for the 38th year. 

During the ceremony, the surviving family members of the 43 officers on the honor roll sat up front, flanked by law enforcement from multiple departments.

Wreaths were placed on the grass around the Bergen County Law Enforcement Memorial, which sits near the entrance to the Law and Public Safety building.   

Fair Lawn High School sophomores Alain Altshuler and Kat Baranova, both 16, sang the National Anthem. 

The event was organized by the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association and Bergen County Police Benevolent Association.
