Update: Female pilot in crash hospitalized

A female pilot of a small plane that made an emergency landing off northbound Route 287 near the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah this morning is being treated at Good Samaritan Hospital in Rockland County, authorities said. The single engine Cessna 170 went down in a thickly weeded embankment off the highway, just north of the hotel, shortly after 10 a.m.

The pilot was headed from Massachusetts to Greenwood Lake, authorities said. Mahwah police said she told them she had to make an emergency landing and overshot a field she’d wanted to land on. A little higher and she could have hit the highway.
