Tipped Route 287 tractor-trailer spills milk in Mahwah

YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: Thousands of gallons of milk spilled when a tractor-trailer tipped onto its side before dawn overnight on southbound Route 287 in Mahwah.

A law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT the driver fell asleep and rolled the rig into the center median near mile marker 64.9 at 3:30 a.m.

He was taken to a local hospital with what were characterized as minor injuries.

Mahwah Fire Stations 2 & 4 responded, along with New Jersey State Police, a Bergen County Hazardous Materials Unit team and a crew from the state Department of Transportation.

Heavy-duty wreckers were going to be used to right the Midland Farms rig.
