Surveillance video shows the passenger of a white GMC Savana picking the bag up off an Industrial Avenue front lawn near Franklin Turnpike between 11:19 – 11:29 a.m., Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

“Employees who replenish currency to ATM machines were on their normal route when they stopped at one of their customer’s business,” Batelli said. “While moving items around inside their vehicle the employee put the money satchel on the lawn and returned to the back of the vehicle where he was normally positioned.

“The driver of the vehicle assuming that all was in order then left for the next stop,” the chief said. “It wasn’t until they were approximately 15 minutes away that the employee in the back of the van realized the money satchel was not where it was suppose to be.

“They returned to the location and discovered the bag was missing.”

Additional surveillance image reviews found that the same passenger from the same vehicle stole tires from a nearby auto repair business.

He was described as dark-skinned and wearing a t-shirt and long white athletic shorts with some type of dark stripe down the thigh area.

Anyone with any information that could help the investigation is asked to call Mahwah Police Detective Michael Grassi or Detective Eric Larsen at (201) 529-1000.
