Detective Brian Huth was on patrol Tuesday when he ran a California license plate on a 2008 four-door Chevy sedan parked outside the Maple Shade Motel, Ramsey Police Chief Bryan Gurney said this morning.
The owner, 33-year-old Marco Pinto, was wanted out of San Jose for attempted murder and weapons possession, the chief said.
Huth checked with the desk and found that Pinto was staying in Room 2. He then obtained a photo of Pinto and the fugitive warrant from his counterparts in California.
The detective was among a strike force team of Ramsey officers and marshals who watched as Pinto left his hotel room around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, got into his car and drove from the parking lot.
They quickly pulled him over, surrounded him and took Pinto into custody without incident.
Pinto was taken to the Bergen County Jail, where he was being held pending extradition.
