The Kew Gardens man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern with severe head injuries following the crash at the corner of N. Franklin Turnpike and Hilltop Road just after 9:30 p.m., Police Chief Bryan Gurney said this morning.

He was later airlifted to Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla N.Y., where he remained in critical condition, Gurney said.

A witness told police she saw “an older model four door sedan, either grey or light blue, described as an older ‘police type’ hit the victim and continue onto Spring Street toward Route 17,” the chief said.

The car has front-end damage, he told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Ramsey police responded, along with detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification.

Also responding were Mahwah police, Ramsey firefighters, the Ramsey Ambulance Corps and Rescue Squad and paramedics from the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

Gurney asked that anyone who saw anything or has information that can help in the crash investigation call his department: (201) 327-2400.
