Timothy Raymond McGill, 30 — a lifelong Ramsey resident, volunteer firefighter and member of the borough’s DPW in-between deployments — was killed Sept. 21 by an Afghan who turned his gun on a group of American soldiers during training exercises. McGill was serving as a weapons specialist with the Rhode Island National Guard.
Citizens have been asked to stand along Main Street to “pause to remember and reflect upon [McGill’s] sacrifice” for his country, Ramsey Mayor Chris Botta said. “He served his country proudly throughout the world during his military service.”
A private viewing for immediate family only will be held at St. Paul’s R.C. Church afterward.
The wake is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at St Paul’s, with a funeral Mass 11 a.m. Friday.
A period from 10 – 10:45 a.m. will be reserved for eulogies, according to the family.
Interment is at Mary Rest Cemetery in Mahwah.
“God bless Timothy Raymond McGill and honor him for making the ultimate sacrifice so we all can live in freedom!” the McGill family said in a statement.
