Working with the Ramsey Board of Education and the state Division of Child Permanency and Protection, Detectives Marc Shingelo and Adam Szelag interviewed the victim about the alleged September assault, Police Chief Bryan Gurney said.
They then arrested Leonel Ascencio after conferring with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the federal Immigration and Naturalization Service (ICE), he said.
Ascencio was being held on $250,000 bail in the Bergen County jail after being arrested the afternoon of Oct 13, records show.
He was charged with aggravated criminal sexual contact, the chief said.
