Modou Sowe, a native of the African nation of Gambia who moved to Harrison in the eighth grade, was identified by school officials as the freshman player who collapsed and went into seizures after a match against SUNY Purchase.
Sowe “suffered a hit to the head during a soccer game last week but was evaluated and cleared to play,” Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Today, the 6-foot-4 center back “took a knee to the head and was evaluated by staff on the field and allowed to continue to finish the game,” Batelli said. “He collapsed while walking off the field.
“He was transported to Valley Hospital by Mahwah Ambulance and assisted by Valley hospital paramedics.”
His condition wasn’t known.
