BEYOND BERGEN: A 40-pound wolverine who was flown into Newark Airport on his way to Norway from the Alaska State Zoo was scratching his way out of a carrier in a transport van when Port Authority officers stopped him yesterday.

A vet from the Bronx Zoo was brought in to tranquilize the wolverine, who was then moved to a secure container after the 3:30 p.m. incident at Terminal C, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said this afternoon.

No one was injured, he said.

“The wolverine had made a hole in his metal carrier, which was being carried in a transport van, in an attempt to escape,” Pentangelo said. “Port Authority patrol units arrived and were joined by Port Authority Police Emergency Service personnel.”

The owner helped coordinate the activity, Pentangelo said.

Wolverines are predators — and travelers.
