Officer Don McNair and colleagues responded to the call for help after things escalated in the Ramsey ambulance on East Ridgewood Avenue around 7:20 last night, Lt. John Scully said.

During an ensuing scuffle, McNair was bit on the hand by the man, identified as 44-year-old Gerald Guy of Plainfield, the lieutenant said.

The officers restrained Guy, who was taken to the medical center before being released to Paramus police for processing.

Guy was charged with assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.

He was being held on $15,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance.

McNair was treated for his injury at The Valley Hospital and was later released, Scully said.
