Detective Sgt. Kevin Hebert spotted 25-year-old Alfonso F. Deleon-Mejia of Stroudsburg, PA, in a wooded area behind the Route 17 motel around 11 p.m. Tuesday, Batelli said.

Deleon-Mejia “immediately placed his hands down the front of his pants,” then refused to show them before taking off, he said.

Hebert caught Deleon-Mejia, who “flailed his arms and resisted efforts to show his hands,” the chief said. “He was taken to the ground where a meth-amphetamine pipe, a torch lighter and a homemade ski rnask were located in the front of his pants.”

Deleon-Mejia admitted to smoking methamphetamine but gave officers at headquarters bogus information about his identity, Batelli said.

He was released pending an Nov. 1 court hearing on charges of possessing drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and providing false information.
