Falotico, a lifelong Emerson resident who sits on that town's Borough Council, was hired as a township patrol officer 25 years ago after working as a dispatcher for two years.
A volunteer firefighter and sports coach in his hometown, Falotico holds a Bachelor's degree from St. Thomas Aquinas and a Master's degree from Seton Hall University.
He comes from a long line of law enforcers: Falotico’s father and uncle served in Emerson; his brother, Thomas, was with the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, and his brother, Richard, is a Ramsey police sergeant.
Batelli cited several qualifications that Falotico brings to the job – including recently leading the department in DWI arrests.
Among them:
- Certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician
- Firearms Instructor and Armorer
- Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC Officer)
He’s also received several citations – including one from the Essex Union County Auto Theft Task Force for catching a suspect charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, auto theft and burglary in 1988.
Falotico also served as President of PBA Local # 143 for several terms.
The veteran officer has “demonstrated his ability to work with juveniles, school officials, and parents to bring about positive behavior and reform,” Batelli said.
“Although new to his position Detective Falotico is already working on programs for both parents and students to address issues related to social media and cyber bullying,” the chief added.
