Officers arrested 39-year-old Stephen Kurkowiak of Amsterdam (Montgomery County), N.Y. at mile marker 64, Police Chief James Batelli told Daily Voice.
He was “about five yards west of the right shoulder and in plain view of traffic, using a sex toy and in possession of a digital camera,” Batelli said. “His clothing was located a short distance away."
Kurkowiak -- originally from Flemington (Hunterdon County), N.J., “explained that he liked to get naked and his intention was to film himself but also realized he was visible to traffic on Route 287,” the chief said. “He was previously at a county park before walking to the side of Route 287.”
Sources told Daily Voice it was Darlington County Park in Mahwah.
The officers allowed Kurkowiak to retrieve his clothing before taking him into custody. He was processed at headquarters on lewdness charges and released pending a court appearance.
