The 34-year-old woman told police that Isaac Jacome, a 44-year-old Mexican national from Suffern, asked her for a ride home Sunday night, then “put his hand over her mouth, uttered an apology and then began to grope her,” Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

She said she “yelled at him to stop but he continued and tried to kiss her” and then “tried to remove her pants and shirt but was also unsuccessful as she struggled to get free,” Batelli said, adding that she said she “continued to yell and fight off his advances and was able to get out of the vehicle.”

The woman then went into the restaurant and called police around 12:45 a.m. yesterday, the chief said.

The woman said she’d given Jacome rides home before without incident. She said Jacome, who’d she’d known only by his first name, worked at the Ramapo Valley Road restaurant for 15 years.

Officer Jonathan Lange, Sgt. Michael Blondin and Detective Kevin Herbert identified Jacome and went to his home, Batelli said.

He “appeared to be intoxicated and was scheduled to leave for Mexico within the next few days to visit his family in Mexico,” the chief said.

Jacome is charged with criminal sexual contact, Batelli said. Federal immigration officials were investigating, he added.
