Mahwah police seize more than 40 pounds of pot, hash oil, arrest 2 in MV stop

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Mahwah police seized more than 40 pounds of marijuana and arrested two Rensselaer, NY men with drug records after stopping their minivan on Route 17.

Officer Ryan Hill pulled over the rented Chrysler Town & Country for a traffic violation near Mountainside Avenue around 9:30 a.m. yesterday, Police Chief James Batelli said.

The driver, 22-year-old David Farone (above, right), didn’t have the necessary paperwork for the vehicle, Batelli said.

Both he and his passenger, William Mackey, 28 (above, left), “appeared nervous and gave inconsistent and conflicting stories when asked questions,” he said.

Responding to assist were Sgt. Michael Blondin, K9 Officer Robert Rapp and Officers Keith Iorio, David Vega and Michael Jack.

After obtaining Farone’s consent, Hill searched the min-van and found 39 large vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana — weighing a pound to a pound and a half each — in various compartments and a suitcase, the chief said.

Also found were two large pieces of hash oil (or “DAB”), as well as drug paraphernalia, Batelli said.

Farone and Mackey were being held on $250,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jaiil, charged with possession of marijuana over 25 pounds with the intent to sell the drug, as well as possession of the liquid hash. with theintent to distribute it

The minivan was impounded.
