Stephen Schwarz, 31, pointed the shotgun at his brother as he approached the back door of his Nilsen Avenue home around 9 o’clock last night, Police Chief James Batelli said.

Schwarz fired, blasting a hole in a screen door and embedding buckshot in the porch, Batelli said.

Roy Schwarz, who wasn’t struck, told police he’d gone to his brother’s house after work to discuss a fight earlier in the week over the alleged theft of money, the chief said.

After Schwarz fired, the victim said, he punched out a pane of glass on the locked door, shouldered it open and tackled his brother, snatching the gun and holding his brother down until police arrived.

The victim, bleeding profusely, was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for treatment of his injury, Batelli said.

“While the house was being secured a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia was observed on a living room table,” the chief said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification processed evidence, he said.

Schwarz was ordered held on $50,000 bail on charges of:

Possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes;
Possession of a shotgun without first obtaining a firearms identification card;
Aggravated assault;
Possession of marijuana; Possession of drug paraphernalia
