Dave Nollido, 31, of Suffern was “thrashing about in the driver’s seat” of his Ford Mustang outside a convenience store at the International Motor Plaza lot on southbound Route 17 yesterday morning, Police Chief James Batelli said this afternoon.
Then, with the motor running and the keys in the ignition, he got out and acted “consistent with an individual being under the influence of a narcotic or intoxicating liquor,” the chief said.
In plain view on the console, Officers Matthew Lombardo and Jonathan Lange spotted several wax paper folds of heroin with a red stamp and bound in a rubber band, Batelli said.
Nollido “initially denied use of any illicit drugs but later admitted to snorting and injecting heroin,” the chief said.
Various packaging items were found along with the needle, he said.
Police released Nollido to the custody of a relative after charging him with possession of heroin, the needle and drug paraphernalia. He also received summonses for DWI and drug possession in a vehicle.
The arrest “underscores the seriousness of the heroin problem throughout Bergen County and the state of New Jersey,” Batelli said. “There is a high probability that this individual would have ingested heroin and then driven on the roadway, endangering other motorists as well as himself.”
