Michael S. Macleish, 61, of Montebello had pocketed drill bits, laser measure, and clamp meters and was also carrying a magnetic device used to disable security tags from the Route 17 store, Police Chief James N. Batelli said.

In a 2010 Audi parked outside police found several stolen items worth roughly $900 – some of which apparently were taken during a February theft – as well as two other security-disabling devices, the chief said.

He was also drunk, Batelli said.

A judge ordered Macleish held on $100,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, assault, two counts of resisting arrest, as well as DWI and refusing to submit to a breath test.

The Audi was impounded, the chief said.

The loss prevention officer recognized Macleish from the February incident, he said.

They were struggling on the floor near the front service desk when Sgt. Michael Blondin and Officer Sean Hayes arrived just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, he said.

Macleish briefly resisted being the officers handcuffed him, Batelli said.

The store employee sustained minor injuries, he said.
