A tipster led police to stop 32-year-old Michael Debiasi -- who had the Glock 23 .40-caliber handgun behind the driver’s seat of his silver Mercury -- at the Mason Jar, Police Chief James Batelli said.
Three other occupants of the car were brought to headquarters along with Dibiasi, who was initially charged with possession of a firearm without a permit.
“It is believed the individuals in the car were going to meet another group of individuals in the parking lot of the restaurant over a dispute that had occurred over the weekend,” Batelli said. “There was never any intention from any of those involved to enter the restaurant with the weapon.”
Police then determined that the Glock was reported stolen from a gun range in Naples, FL, he said.
Debiasi posted $50,000 bail and was released Sept. 7 from the Bergen County Jail after originally being charged with illegal handgun possession.
Police rearrested him, adding another possession count along with one of receiving stolen property, and he again posted the same bail, Batelli said.
