Nathaniel Rodriguez, 22, of West New York, was dealing marijuana “in various quantities to both Ramapo College students and [buyers] not residing on the campus,” Police Chief James N. Batelli said Thursday.
Detectives acting on a tip obtained three months ago confirmed that Rodriguez, a senior scheduled to graduate in three months, “was conducting the operation out of his College Park Apartment (Mimosa),” the chief said.
After watching him and obtaining additional evidence, “sufficient and verified information justified an application
for a search warrant,” he said.
Early Thursday, detectives searched Rodriguez’s home and car and found the pot, a quantity of DAB, prescription medications and drug packaging materials, including scales, the chief said.
Rodriguez was released pending a Central Municipal Court first appearance March 3 on various drug charges.
Batelli noted that the Ramapo College Security Department worked closely with his detectives, who were led by Detective Lit Guido Bussinelli and Detective Sgt. Kevin Hebert.
Batelli also acknowledged “the assistance and cooperation of officials of Ramapo College who worked with law enforcement on this investigation to ensure a safe and drug free environment for students and staff attending the College.”
More arrests were possible as the investigation continues, the chief said.
