Mahwah gas main struck, no evacuations necessary, police say

UPDATE: No evacuations were required but some Mahwah business owners reported a faint odor of natural gas after a construction crew struck a main this morning.

The crew was doing roadway work when it hit the main at the intersection of Island Road and McKee Drive around 10:40 a.m., Police Chief James Batelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“It was not deemed to be at a dangerous level and it was not necessary for employees to leave,” he said.

Mahwah police and firefighters immediately responded. A PSE&G crew was expected soon after.
