He remained in critical condition there today, Molinelli said.
Rinaldi was headed south on Ramapo Valley road in his 1990 Dodge Ram pickup when he made a sharp left onto North Railroad Avenue.
The pickup crossed into the northbound lane, where it struck Perez head-on, Molinelli said.
Perez sustained a broken leg and head trauma after hitting it on the pavement.
Officers who spoke with Rinaldi immediately took him into custody, the prosecutor said.
The resulting investigation by members of his Fatal Accident Investigation Unit (FAIU) and Mahwah police lead to the charges.
