Fairview police began operating out of a Bergen County mobile command unit parked curbside shortly after the 9:25 a.m. strike knocked out radio communications, telephones and computers in their Anderson Avenue headquarters, Chief Frank DelVecchio told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
Calls were being routed through the Bergen County Police Department’s mobile communications center in Mahwah, while electricians checked wires in the building and firefighters stood ready in case they were needed.
“The transition to the county system was seamless. There was no break in service,” DelVecchio said. “Operations have continued.”
One resident said he was headed to the municipal building to pay his taxes but was told by a firefighter: “It’s not happening today.”
