Officer Eric Larsen stopped a white Ford Fusion for a motor-vehicle violation on Linden Street last night.
He was talking with the driver, 52-year-old Shari Grogan, and her son, rear-seat passenger David N. Peluso, 27, when he notified “traits consistent with narcotics use,” Police Chief James Batelli told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.
Their statements also didn’t match, the chief said.
Larsen, who is a certified drug recognition expert, obtained Grogan’s consent to search the car, then turned up the contraband, Batelli said.
Grogan and Peluso, who live with a relative in a nearby condo, were charged with two heroin possession counts each — one with the intent to distribute the drug.
Grogan was also charged with illegal possession of the Xanax and Peluso with possession of the needle.
Both were released without bail pending a May 13 court date.
An investigation was continuing, Batelli said.
