Joshua A. Polanco, 21, is charged in the eight-count indictment with attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault and weapons possession.
“New Jersey State Troopers put their lives on the line each day to protect all of us,” said Attorney General Chiesa said this morning. “We must do our part to make them safer by aggressively prosecuting anyone who threatens them with a deadly weapon.”
Authorities said Polanco fired three times in July 2011 after five members of the New Jersey State Police Metro South Unit interrupted the holdup.
Polanco, they said, was “pointing a 9mm semi-automatic handgun at the head of the victim and forcing him to the pavement” when they pulled into the parking lot of the Camden restaurant.
He then “turned and fired his handgun twice at the troopers. The troopers returned fire, and Polanco allegedly fled, firing his gun a third time at the troopers.”
No one was struck.
The troopers issued a radio alert, and Camden police grabbed Polanco moments later.
If convicted, he could go to prison for 30 years to life.
