The flatbed tractor-trailer, driven by 31-year-old Toby C. Linville of Phoenix, whacked the corner of the Wyckoff Avenue eatery just before 9 o’clock last night, the chief said.
Linville, who was driving for Western Express of Nashville, told police who stopped him that he “was unsure whether he had struck a building,” Fox said.
He was charged with leaving the scene of the crash and released pending a Municipal Court hearing.
In operation since the 1750s, the Brownstone Inn is on the National Registry of Historical Buildings. It closed two years ago and its owner, Aziz Kastrati, pleaded guilty this past April in federal court to evading currency reporting requirements by making dozens of deposits of under $10,000 to various banks.
