YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Rescuers last night found a trio of hikers who became lost in the upper lake area of the Ramapo Reservation in Mahwah.

Bergen County Police K9 Officer Stanislav Tovbin responded to the call around 7:50 p.m., Lt. Robert Espinosa told CLIFFVIEW PILOT early this morning.

New Jersey Search and Rescue was contacted, and coordinates for the hikers were provided by AT&T through one of their cell phones, he said.

Mahwah police and the superintendent of parks, Todd Cochran, also responded.

The search and rescue team found all three and brought them to the entrance of the park, Espinosa said.

The team’s chief, Bryan Enberg, said they were found off the trail in the Matty Price Hill section.

Espinosa said the hikers told their rescuers that they entered the park around 5 o’clock and weren’t able to find their way back. All were unharmed and didn’t need medical attention, the lieutenant said.

New Jersey Search and Rescue members are trained for year-round day or night searches in almost any weather conditions. They are officially recognized as a state and
county Emergency Management Resource, and are an official resource of the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management, which summons them through the Bergen County Public Safety Operations Center in Mahwah.
