Garfield police hired to provide Black Friday security took 29-year-old Cyrstal Hickman into custody on charges of spitting at another woman and hitting the youngster, Detective Capt. Darren Sucorowski said this morning.
As they were doing that, a man later identified as Richard Ramos, 23, of Newark began “yelling and screaming vulgarities” in the store while arguing with another man over a television, the captain said.
As police led him out, Ramos “spun around on the officers and grabbed Lt. Ron Polonkay by his uniform shirt with both hands,” Sucorowski said.
Officers then tried to handcuff him, but Ramos continued to struggle, the captain said.
They eventually got him under control, then brought him to headquarters, where he was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Ramos was taken to the Bergen County Jail and later released after posting $20,000 bail, records show.
Hickman, meanwhile, was released on a disorderly conduct summons.
