Fairview police: Sting catches man who tried to sell stolen purse back to owner

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: After losing her purse, a Fairview woman got a call from someone who offered to return it for a fee — so she called police, who set up a sting.

Police Officers Joseph Bucco, Robert Sabatino and Berk Kacaroglu were there by the time the woman got her next call, and she agreed for a “drop off” at her Anderson Avenue home, Detective Capt. Martin Kahn told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“[T]o the surprise” of the caller, Sabatino and Kacaroglu were waiting when a 23-year-old man who lives up the street arrived.

Jose Antonio Ferreira, who was arrested without incident on charges of receiving stolen property and extortion.

Ferreira, who is single and unemployed, was taken to the Bergen County Jail after he was booked following the arrest, police said.
