‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ yields hash oil, pot, cash on Route 17 in Mahwah

A “Stay Sober or Get Pulled Over” police patrol in Mahwah last night turned up hash oil, nearly two ounces of pot and $2,000 in suspected drug proceeds that police seized while arresting a former Union City couple.

Officer Jonathan Weber stopped Richard D. McDonald, 24, of Richmondville and his passenger, 21-year-old Katharine Foote of Summit (NY) because MacDonald failed to keep right on Route 17, Police Chief James Batelli said.

The officer clearly smelled marijuana in the car, obtained a consent to search from MacDonald and found the drugs, paraphernalia and cash, the chief said.

Both were charged with drug possession and distribution offenses and were released pending a Municipal Court hearing.

Batelli noted that has oil — variously referred to as DAB or BHO — has a higher concentration of THC than plants. It’s ingested through heating and inhaling.
