The Mahwah Fire Department’s hazardous materials team placed absorbent booms in several locations downriver to contain at least five gallons of fuel that spilled from the truck after it slid into the river off Halifax Road around 6:30 p.m., emergency workers told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Bergen County Police also responded because a county-owned vehicle was involved in the incident.

New Jersey’s DEP was notified because of the automotive fuel spill into the river.

Another larger tow truck was dispatched to assist in removing the first one, but after more than 90 minutes it was still stuck.
